If you live in the city of Toronto and your child has a confirmed diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) toward the severe end of the spectrum (Level 3), call Surrey Place Centre and ask to speak to the TPAS Registration Assistant at 416-925-5141, extension 2289. Only children determined to be eligible based on a TPAS eligibility screening are able to receive TPAS intervention.
With a confirmed diagnosis, your child will then be registered with TPAS. Information about your family and child will also be shared with those who will be working with you. This will include Surrey Place Centre, your local community agency, and, where appropriate, Toronto Preschool Speech and Language Services.
Determining Eligibility and Service Needs
Once a written copy of the diagnosis and proof of Toronto residency has been received, TPAS will contact you to arrange a screening to determine eligibility for Intensive Behaviour Intervention (IBI).
A TPAS psychologist will screen your child to determine if he or she is on the severe end of the spectrum and if IBI is a suitable intervention for your child.
If your child is eligible and IBI is suitable, you will be invited to start Parent Education and Support Services beginning with an orientation to TPAS. You will continue working with your Intake Service Coordinator to develop a plan for service, which may include accessing other resources in your community. Your child will be placed on a waitlist until a vacancy occurs or until he or she turns five years old. If an IBI space becomes available before your child turns five, they can receive IBI.
Ontario Autism Program
In 2016, the Ontario government announced changes to the autism program. The new Ontario Autism Program will begin to be implemented in June 2017.

Services from TPAS are funded by the Government of Ontario and are offered at five TPAS agencies. You have two options for choosing Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) if your child is deemed eligible:
- IBI services from TPAS: IBI services from TPAS: Your child can receive IBI services from trained staff through one of the five TPAS partner agencies, which is called the Direct Service Option (DSO).
- IBI services from a private provider: You can choose an approved private provider for IBI services, through the Direct Funding Option (DFO). You receive a flat rate of funding directly from Surrey Place Centre to assist with the costs of IBI provided under the supervision of a registered psychologist with demonstrated expertise in IBI for children with autism.
